Black Throated Wind

I actually only recently started appreciating this song. I’m not sure why, but I never really gave it much notice over the years. I was, however, listening to my stream (which I generally always do) on my way home from dropping my kids off to school, and this came on and IĀ pulled over and just took it all in. Since then I generally always stop what I’m doing and listen to the song.

You notice I play a lot of early 70’s. That’s not by accident. I will say that I am my biggest fan. I listen daily as much as I can. Partly to make sure everything is running well, but mainly because there is so much out there, I don’t want to miss any of it. I got into this a little later in life than I wish now, so I missed a lot of prime opportunities to see them live. I’m trying to make up for that by keeping the music flowing.

I mention the early 70’s because I admittedly get frustrated sometimes at Bobby’s lack of singing in the 80’s and 90’s. I realize our voices change, but I want songs to be sung, and if you lose an octave, bring it down a notch. But that is old news, and the history is what it is, and I will still happily stream shows from that era. I do, though, love the early Jerry and Bobby singing. It just sets my mood for the whole day.

So then I came across this…

… and I was floored. This is one of the most moving versionsĀ I have ever listened to. If you haven’t heard it, please listen. If you have, you know what I mean. It shows Bobby as he is today, but bringing out the soul of 40+ years ago. It gave me a new perspective of the song, Bobby, the 80’s and 90’s, and myself. Powerful, eh?

It’s amazing that even after 50 years, the music never stops.
